More Soldiers in a push
First direction: Test Max Rally, then call a Soldier Drop.
Watch for: Does the larger rally reach the Bastion with enough time to act?
Hold a lane against charges
First direction: Test Soldier durability or defensive Battleworks.
Watch for: Can Trenches slow the wave and keep your position intact?
Break a fortified approach
First direction: Test Cavalry and plan a follow-up.
Watch for: Does the charge clear Trenches or pressure the defenders?
Scout and collect safely
First direction: Test utility alongside smaller detachments.
Watch for: Can Shift + D gather information or resources without risking your main group?
Why Max Rally changes more than your army size
Soldiers rally automatically around a nearby friendly Giant. Their helmet Strike Lights show which troops are under your command. War-Shell items can raise maximum rally size, and the Soldier Drop deployment scales its reinforcements with that maximum.
Cavalry also scales with Max Rally. A larger cavalry charge can increase the slow applied to a Giant when more units connect. This makes Max Rally a linked choice for your rallied group, Soldier Drop and Cavalry; it does not make every other Battlework stronger.
Use the battlefield to check the build
- Before changing equipment, note your Giant, the match phase and the job your team needs.
- Look for Strike Lights to confirm which Soldiers are yours. Use a small Shift + D charge to scout or collect before committing the main group.
- Try one War-Shell change at a time. Compare the next Soldier Drop or Cavalry use with the same battlefield task.
- When defending, test whether a Trench holds against a charge. Nearby unrallied Soldiers can fill its gaps; a nearby Giant can order entrenched Soldiers to charge.
- Keep a short note of what changed the result: troop count, time to reach the objective, survival, or whether the deployment solved the problem.
Do not treat a community balance take as a tier list
Pioneer players have praised having more ways to direct Soldiers, while some have called full-rally builds strong. Those are playtest impressions, not confirmed rankings or a universal counter. Compare the same objective and match situation before deciding whether your build needs more rally size, durability or utility.

Use the Soldier controls guide for D, F and Shift + D commands. Compare deployment jobs in the Battleworks guide, and use the build paths guide when you want to split investment between Kinetic Power, Alchemic Power and Soldiers. The beginner match guide connects those choices to the Bastion win condition.
